| My research is focused on physical culture, which is to say it centres on the meanings, practices, technologies, and spaces associated with the active body in a variety of contexts (in sport, fitness, physical activity, leisure, and physical education). I draw from an eclectic mix of theories in my work and from an array of research methods as well.
In more specific terms, my research involves two main strands of analysis. The first strand is focused on health and fitness technologies, with consideration given to the production, representation, regulation, and consumption of devices such as fitness training apps. The second strand of analysis involves work on sport and the environment, with a focus in this case on environmental discourses, policies, and practices related to sporting industries (golf) and mega-events (the Olympics).
